The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has handed over assorted relief materials to the Taraba State government for onward distribution to flood victims in the state.
In a ceremony in Jalingo on Friday, the Managing Director of the Commission, Mohammed Goni Alkali, handed over to Governor Darius Ishaku, 10,000 bags of 25 kg rice, 5,000 pieces of blankets, 5,000 pieces of mats, 5,000 pieces of wrappers, 3,000 pieces of Shedda for men, 3,000 gallons of vegetable oil and 3,000 children wears.
Also, a fire fighting truck was donated to the Taraba Polytechnic.
Alkali further stated that NEDC has awarded contracts for mega schools to be established in the three senatorial districts among other projects.
He promised that very soon, they would embark on a groundbreaking ceremony for roads in the state.

While receiving members of the commission, Governor Darius Ishaku testified that the commission was the first to intervene since the disaster occurred.
He admitted that a lot of people are unaware that Taraba has the longest stretch of the River Benue and that the state has been rendered vulnerable to the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.
According to Ishaku, most of the victims were rice farmers who supplied the product to factories in Kano.
He disclosed that one of the rice farmers had attempted suicide because he lost 40 million naira worth of rice to the flood.
