Governor Aminu Bello Masari of Katsina State has inaugurated a white paper drafting committee on the crisis rocking the state-owned, Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University, UMYU, with a view to finding lasting solution to a peaceful and stable tertiary education in the state.

Speaking while inaugurating the committee at the Government House Katsina, the governor told the committee members that the state government was aware and conversant with the entire crises bedevilling the institution and ready to remedy them.

Masari also noted that attempts by the governing board of the institution to resolve some of the issues have failed.

He said: “Government decided to constitute the committee to look at the visitation panel’s report, its recommendations, observations and suggestions with a view to implementing them.

“It is very important as we are determined to take all necessary actions to restore the honour and dignity of the institution, its certificate and students.”

“We cannot afford the university to fall into the trap of continuous crisis that may likely and definitely interfere with its academic performances and quality of education it is supposed to give”.

The governor charged the committee members to make sure that they were ready with the report within the stipulated time, to give government the opportunity to take decisions before the end of the year.

Chairman of the committee and Special Adviser on Human Capital Development, Lawal Aliyu, assured the state government that the committee will work diligently and creditably to conclude its assignment within the given timeframe.

He thanked the Governor for giving them the opportunity to serve the state in its quest to advance education at all levels.
