Fed Govt unveils electronic issuance of mining titles

The Federal Government has officially flagged off an online system where mining titles can be submitted, payments made and titles issued or rejected.

The Electronic Mining Cadastral plus (eMC+), is expected to help in the administration and management of mineral titles to ensure transparency and accessibility of information.

Director General (DG), Nigeria Mining Cadastral Office (MCO), Engr Simon Nkom said the newly upgraded system was in line with the mandate of the best practices in the sector.

The DG said this at the 2022 Mining Week and the official launching of the electronic application in Abuja.

He stated that the eMC+ was created and launched in the bid to advance technologically and operate effectively and efficiently to enable the ease of doing business.

Nkom said: “The electronic filing system was initially computerized, but now we are migrating to an online system, you can now use your phone to be able to have access to this system. It makes the system transparent.

“The eMC+ is a management system which assists in public administration of mineral titles in a responsible, efficient and transparent manner, throughout the life cycle of the mineral titles online (real-time) and that the system is designed to cater for the entire process of mineral title administration from application submission, payment of fees, granting(refusing) up to the issuance of a certificate.

“We must be able to do it in the best way possible.

And at the end of the day in line with the law, because when you look at practices of mineral titles in the world, you will know that definitely there is a need to be able to now spice it up with principles, which is simply like a priority, transparency and a lot of things which makes it different from other countries and makes people come here.”
