After being named the man of the match in Bayelsa Queens’ 3-0 bashing of Egypt’s Wadi Degla, Mercy Itimi has tagged the semifinal tie against host – AS Far of Morocco as total war at the 2022 CAF Women’s Champions League (CAFWCL).
The coach Domo Okara-tutored side became the first Nigerian side to play in the semifinal of CAFWCL after finishing second behind defending champion Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and they are expected to face the leader of Group B AS Far tomorrow in the second semifinal.
Itimi, a member of the bronze medal-winning Flamingos team to the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in India believes the team is poised to make a statement against the Moroccan side.
“We must remain very vigilant. We have the advantage of knowing the identity of our next opponent (AS Far), it is a great team, but Bayelsa Queens are also a great team. It’s going to be a great battle,” the 16-year-old told CAF.
Meanwhile, coach Okara has demanded more from her lads when they host the Moroccan side.
Despite the 3-0 bashing of their Egyptian counterparts in the last group match, unsatisfied Okara said: “Although we controlled the game with this goal in the first half, I was not satisfied with the level of play of the girls. They fell easily. I wanted them to go all the way.”
