Peter Chukwuemeke Diji produced the film, Battered, which recently exposed modern slavery when it screened at the premiere in the Sky Cinemas.
The event, which was anchored by MC Fresh, was graced by personalities from all walks of life that include Comfort Agboko, Richard Idowu, Franklin Nwaigwe, Emma Offor, and Madu Chikwendu.
Battered written by Faith Ozioma Peter Diji, expounds a facet of modern slavery, which the writer expatiates in her book, The Secret Killer.
Directed by Asaa, the flick is a tale of a young girl Mimi, who has been a perpetual maidservant since she was 15 years old. She lived with Mayem, her employee, who dealt mercilessly with her. Mayem had promised to assist Mimi to achieve her dream of becoming a seamstress and for that reason, Mimi was fair with her charge and accepted whatever Mayem was willing to pay her. Thereafter, Mimi realized she’d been tricked. Mirabel promised to help Mimi out of the predicament and she did so by introducing her to an agent who is into the business of smuggling people into Europe by land and sea.
On his part, Richard Idowu, who praised the efforts reiterated the commitment of the Lagos state government under the able leadership of Babajide Sanwo-Olu to support projects such as ‘Battered.’
