Red-hot Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman was on target again for Atalanta but his goal counted for nothing as the Nerazzurri were beaten 3-2 by Inter Milan in an Italian Serie A clash at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday afternoon – their third consecutive loss in the division.
Referee Daniele Chiffi pointed to the spot midway through the first half after Duván Zapata was caught in the area by Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij.
Lookman sent Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana the wrong way to open the scoring for Atalanta, taking his tally in the Serie A to seven goals in his first fifteen appearances in his debut season.
Inter equalised in the 36th minute courtesy of a beautifully taken goal by Edin Dzeko and the Bosnia and Herzegovina striker made it 2-1 with another close range effort at minute 56th before José Luis Palomino scored at both ends.
In France, Terem Moffi bagged his second consecutive goal in FC Lorient’s 1-1 draw with RC Strasbourg at Stade de la Meinau.
The 23-year-old scored the important first goal with a right footed shot from close range in the fifth minute.
Moffi is the third player in the French topflight to have scored ten times this season, and only Paris Saint Germain stars Kylian Mbappe (12) and Neymar Jr (11) have more.
Still in France, Moses Simon scored the equalizer for Nantes as they forced Ajaccio to a 2-2 draw at Stade de la Beaujoire.
Nantes were looking to bounce back from their loss to Reims last time out when they welcomed Ajaccio to Stade de la Beaujoire.
Simon got his fourth consecutive start for Nantes, and he was looking to produce the goods for his side.
After a goalless first half, Youcef Belaili and Romain Hamouma gave the visitors a two-goal cushion before Ludovic Blas pulled one back for Nantes in the 70th minute.
Ajaccio held on strong to see out the 2-1 result, but Simon struck at the death. The Super Eagles forward sent a wicked cross into the box, which the keeper misjudged, leaving it to creep into an empty net.
