The Bauchi State government has allocated N35 billion in the 2023 budget to the state Ministry of Works and Transportation to implement capital projects.
Alh. Aminu Hammayo, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, said this during a budget breakdown in Bauchi on Thursday, and that the figure represented 17.3 per cent of the total budget.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Gov. Bala Mohammed had on Wednesday presented a budget of N202 billion to the Bauchi State House of Assembly for approval.
Hammayo said the ministry received the lion share of the budget due to the ongoing visible capital projects embarked upon by the state government.
He said the Ministry of Health took the second position in terms of allocation with a total sum of N30.5 billion, which represented about 15.08 per cent of the total budget.

Hammayo said the state government was concerned about health indices in the state in terms of maternal and under five mortality rates.
He said the government planned to further improve the ability of the state’s general hospitals as well as upgrade the Primary Health Care (PHCs) centres across the state and to provide one where there was none.
This, he said, was to ensure that access to basic health services was provided to the citizens across the state.
“Then we have the Ministry of Education also comprising the various agencies of the ministry with an allocation of N25.7 billion, which represents about 12.7 per cent of the total budget.
“For the Ministry of Finance, we have N22.9 billion, which is about 11.3 per cent and basically, this comprises death service charges.
“We also have the office of the Head of Service with the sum of N13 billion, which represents about 6.6 per cent, and we have the Secretary to the State Government’s office with the sum of N10 billion, which is about 5 per cent,” he said.
The commissioner further stated that the state Ministry of Housing and Environment as well as the Ministry of Agriculture would receive the sum of N6 billion and N5 billion, respectively.
