How nations can develop, by ex NOUN VC

Founding Vice Chancellor of National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Olugbemiro Jegede, has said development of a nation is tied to investment in education.

He spoke at the 32nd convocation lecture of West Africa Theological Seminary (WATS).

WATS is a non-denominational seminary founded by an American, Prof. Gary Maxey.

Jegede, who spoke on ‘The Role of Technology Enhanced Learning in Improving Content and Context of Theological Education in Africa’,  warned that any nation which does not prioritise education cannot attain meaningful heights.

He said: “There is direct relationship between development, progress, and education… Illiteracy, poverty, and low development indices have roots in low education. Today, more than ever, the main wealth source is knowledge. The global economy is being transformed from material-based to knowledge-based…

Governing Council Chairman, Dr. Emmanuel Oluwayemi, noted that the seminary has survived all odds, saying he has confidence in its future.

Prof. Maxey expressed similar sentiment, adding 2023 holds hope for the seminary.

Acting Provost, Dr Tosin Awolalu, hailed the 66 graduates, and urged them to be worthy ambassadors of the school.
