A Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Halima A.B. Wali, has ordered that a self-acclaimed internet blogger, Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, be remanded in the correctional center over alleged defamation of the former Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Tukur Yusuf Buratai (rtd).

Danshagamu, who is the defendant, was dragged before the High Court for allegedly sharing a video footage on social media, where he claimed that the plaintiff built over 60 filling stations in Kano out of arms deal proceeds.

After sharing the said video footage, the plaintiff who is the former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, directed the Police to fish out the defendant to investigate the claims.

Counsel to the defendant, Barrister S.A. Abdullahi prayed the court to grant bail to his client, but the presiding judge declined on the grounds that the defendant’s offence contravened sections 371 and 115, as the said offence, could lead to three years imprisonment.

The judge also ordered that the defendant be sent to the state’s psychiatrist to check whether he was in his normal state of mind, when he shared the said video clips.

The counsel to the plaintiff, Barrister Hussaini Makari while speaking to newsmen shortly after the court sitting, said that his client had also thrown a challenge that if the defendant or any Kano State based citizen could point out any filling station belonging to him, he was ready to withdraw the case against the defendant.

Meanwhile, counsel to the defendant, S.A. Abdullahi declined comments when journalists approached him.
