About 303 suspected illegal immigrants have been apprehended by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
State Comptroller Mrs. Francisca Dakat, who addressed reporters after a mop-up exercise in Uyo, at the weekend, said of the 303 apprehended, there were 285 adults. She said the mop-up was in line with the service directives that non-Nigerians should not partake in the general elections.
According to her, the command had earlier carried out a sensitisation for all non-Nigerians resident in the state before the mop-up.
She said: “The mop-up, which held within the Uyo metropolis, will be a continuous exercise and will be extended to all the 31 local government areas…”
