Sacked Ekiti PDP chair dares NWC, rejects excos dissolution

The acting Chairman of the sacked State Working Committee of the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lanre Omolase, has kicked against the dissolution of the State Executive Committee.

He said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP lacked the power to sack party executives that were duly elected by delegates at the congress.

The national leadership of the party had in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, at the weekend, dissolved the State Executive Committee and constituted a caretaker committee led by Sodiq Obanoyen, an architect, to run the affairs of the party for three months.

But Omolase, in a statement he signed yesterday in Ado-Ekiti, said he remained the chairman of the party, stressing that the setting up of a caretaker committee to run the affairs of the party in the state was not only illegal, but also premature.

He said the purported dissolution of the excos was misleading and should be disregarded by PDP members, adding that it was unsavoury and contemptuous for the NWC to take action on subsisting order of the court.

Omolase described the dissolution as a nullity and an exercise in futility, saying the court had ruled that status quo should remain on the chairmanship position until final determination of a suit before it.
