Barely five days to the presidential poll, over four million blacksmiths and tinkers yesterday endorsed the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his running mate in the contest, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
Alh. Ishaku Kontagora, the National Secretary of the National Union of Blacksmith and Tinkers Workers of Nigeria (NUBTWN), their umbrella body, announced the endorsement at a forum in Abuja yesterday.
The session, which included blacksmiths and tinkers from 19 northern states, was organized by Project 774, a National Support Group for Tinubu’s presidency.
Kontagora, who claimed that the union has more than four million members in Nigeria, said the association will vote for merit.
He also said given the current development and support to the union by the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the association have resolved to back the candidacy of Tinubu and Shettima for the presidential election.
He said the endorsement would enable the APC government to continue the good work started by Buhari.
He said members of the union were satisfied with antecedents of Tinubu and his agenda for Nigeria especially his plan for a bottom-to-top approach to development.
The National Coordinator of Project 774, Sen. Sabi Abdullahi said the initiative was designed to mobilize grassroots support for politics, to positively affect the local people.
He said the group will secure the grassroots for Tinubu on Saturday.
Abdullahi thanked members of the union for making the endorsement possible.
