CAN cautions Lagos residents over toxic comment on outcome of election

The Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, (CAN), Bishop Stephen Adegbite has called for caution over toxic comments made among Lagos residents with respect to the just concluded 2023 Presidential Election.

Adegbite said this at a joint press conference organised by the Lagos Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Progressive Christian Clerics Association held yesterday at the Chapel of Light, Alausa, Lagos.

Adegbite congratulated Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima as the President-Elect and Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and said that it is heart-warming to see residents of all ages, religions, creeds, ethnic backgrounds, and demographics turn out at the over 13, 000 polling units in Lagos to speak with their Permanent Voters’ Card and freely elect a candidate of their choice.

Adegbite said: ‘’We are not oblivious of toxic comments from some individuals and groups within and outside the state calling for the cancellation of what has been a credible process going by all we can see.

“As a responsible organisation and leaders of the Christian community in Lagos, we deem it fit to call for caution, restrain, and demand responsibility from such people and others who may still intend to join the act.’ He also congratulated the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi who made a brilliant showing in Lagos by winning the state in the presidential election.

He appreciated Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his visionary leadership not only in providing an enabling environment for last Saturday’s elections but also for quickly reassuring residents of safety regardless of ethnic background or political affiliations.

Adegbite assured the Christian community that no one is in any form of the danger of any kind in Lagos.

“The government of the state has promised to continue to provide a level playing field for all, and Lagos will continue to be home for all and for all.

‘We urge everyone to go about their daily activities without fear, concerns or worries.’
