A Political Scientist, Babatunde Adewunmi, has cautioned Nigerians against manipulation of section of the constitution on votes required for President to emerge at 2023 poll.
Adewunmi, who described the Presidential Election as highly competitive, dismissed the ‘massive rigging’ allegations by the opposition parties.
He said if the election was rigged as claimed in some quarters, Peter Obi could not have defeated Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Lagos and Atiku Abubakar winning in President Muhammadu Buhari Katsina homestate.
Adewunmi said that the close margin between the first three contenders showed that the votes of the people counts.
He, however, said that the decision of the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar of the PDP to head to the court is in line with the democratic tenets.
According to him, the fact that the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) could not immediately upload the results from the Presidential election should not have undermined the process.
He expressed optimism that Nigerians will also troop out on Saturday.
Adewunmi strongly believed that the President-Elect will select competent Nigerians to work with him in changing the narratives and reposition the nation’s economy.
