Switzerland based Nigerian coach Tony Adeyemi has faulted Flying Eagles coach Ladan Bosso for being too rigid with his tactical approach during the just concluded U-20 Africa Cup of Nations held in Egypt.
Adeyemi who spoke on Sportsville, an independent television sports show aired on Channels TV yesterday, said Bosso showed in Egypt that he had no plan A- B- and C depending on what opposing teams had to offer.
He noted that a good tactician should have different options to win games, even as he added that given the expected high level of opposition the Flying Eagles would face at the U-20 World Cup in Indonesia something must be done for the team to do well.
“The stakes would definitely be higher in Indonesia, the oppositions would be tougher than what we saw in Egypt and unfortunately time is not on our part to begin to rejig the team,” Adeyemi said.“ The Flying Eagles have a lot of work to do if we must perform well in Indonesia,”
It would be noted that the Flying Eagles won a bronze in Egypt after beating Tunisia in the third place game after they failed to reach the final of the tournament after losing 0-1 to Gambia in the semi-final. Senegal won the tournament after defeating their neighbours Gambia by 2-0 in the final.
Meanwhile, Senegal midfielder Pape Demba Diop has won the Umbro Golden Boot award of Egypt 2023.
The 19-year-old scored five goals in the tournament which earned him the coveted trophy as the leading scorer of the 23rd edition of the biennial tournament.
The Zulte Waregem starlet impressed in the land of the Pharaoh with his spectacular goals and his ability to be at the right place at the right time.
Diop opened his account in the 3-0 hammering of Mozambique in the second group match before hitting a famous hat-trick against host nation Egypt to eliminate the Young Pharaohs.
Diop showed real promise in the tournament as he pushed for first team action at Belgian side Zulte Waregem. The Ouakam born maestro was a delight to watch in the well drilled Senegalese team.
He scored a sumptuous goal to put Senegal in front against Tunisia in the semi-finals at the Suez Canal Authority Stadium.
