‘Diya a lover of education’

A public relations expert, Sir Aramide Tola Noibi, has described the late Lt.-Gen. Oladipo Diya, who died on March 26, as a highly revered personality

Sir Noibi, in a statement he issued yesterday in Lagos, said: “General Diya was a likeable personality and a lover of education, who gave scholarship to the needy. He established a community library named after him and administered by Prof. Tola Atinmo, a dean at the University of Ibadan.

“He organised and sponsored Ogun State Secondary Schools Literary and Debating Competition and donated prizes to the winner at the annual Odogbolu Day celebration.

“The late Diya, the Asiwaju of Odogbolu, was very active in his life. He was the grand patron of social, literary and religious societies, including the Light Bearers, Wesley Cathedral Olowogbowo, Lagos, Boys and Girls Brigade, Yoruba Unity Forum and other social, economic and global organisations.

“Some of his associates are Dr. Biodun Sobanjo, the Executive Chairman of Insight Communications, Senator Anthony Adefuye, Senator Ayodeji Otegbola, Chief Nike Akande, the former president, Lagos Chamber of Commerce (LCCI), Dr. Funke Adebajo and others.
