Unknown gunmen who last Friday whisked away a former Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Professor Onje Gye-Wado, have contacted the family and demanded N70 million ransom for him to be released.
Our correspondent gathered from a family source in Lafia, the state capital, that relatives of the politician are currently appealing to the kidnappers to reduce the ransom money as the family cannot raise N70million.
Onje Gye-Wado was abducted from his country home in Gwagi village of Wamba local government area.
“The kidnappers contacted the family of the former deputy governor to discuss his release and they demanded the sum of N70 million.
“But his family is now appealing to the kidnappers to reduce the ransom money as the family cannot raise N70million. A close relative of the Professor recently said they cannot afford to raise such huge amount of money because of the public holidays declared by the Federal Government for the Easter celebration.”
