Car hits tree, bursts into flames at varsity

Unspecified number of students and visitors of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, escaped death on Tuesday when a speeding Toyota Venza car skidded off the varsity’s inner road and rammed into a tree.

The lone accident occured about 100 metres away from the university’s new Senate Building as the driver, a 300-level student, drove into the main campus.

He, however, came out of it unscathed.

The incident caused panic as the vehicle exploded immediately following the impact of the accident.

The situation forced people to scamper to safety, while other motorists attempted unsuccessfully to quench the fire with their extinguishers.

The Nation tried to contact the university’s Director of Public Relations, Niyi Oduwole, for a reaction without success.

It was learnt that Oduwole was busy in respect of pressing arrangements over 107th inaugural lecture of the university to be delivered at 2pm by a Professor of Language Education, Sefiu Oladunjoye.
