The Osun State Police Command has arrested a middle-aged man, Adebisi Muideen, over alleged trafficking of four teenage girls from Ile-Ife to Kano State for shipment to Tripoli, Libya.
The suspect allegedly lured his victims with birthday party he organised at a hotel in Ile-Ife where he gave them food and drinks laced with sedatives. Spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said in a statement that three of the four girls miraculously escaped from the grip of the human traffickers when they arrived Kano, from where they planned to take them to Libya.
She said the girls’ parents reported the matter to police, adding that they had been reunited with their families.
She said the whereabouts of the fourth girl was not known.
The PPRO said: “The suspect said the girls willingly accepted to go to Libya to work.”
He said his brother who resides in Tripoli instructed him to get girls for him and send the girls to one man in Kano who will take them to Libya from Kano.
“The suspect said when he got to the man’s house in Kano, he met so many girls that were being processed for the journey to Libya. The case would be diligently investigated and charged to court at the completion of the investigation.”
