FIFA Women’s WC: NFF plans friendly, early camping for Super Falcons

Impressed with the recent performance of Super Falcons, the board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has promised to organise a grade A friendly as well as two-week camping for the team ahead of the FIFA Women’s World Cup on July 20.

In a communiqué issued at the end of its Executive Committee meeting in Abuja on Monday, the board urged the coaching crew to continue to work hard for the team to be at par with other top teams in the world.

“The Board expressed satisfaction with the new positive spirit and winning mentality in the camp of the senior women national team, Super Falcons, which has seen the team win its last three international matches. With the bigger picture of the biggest-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup competition coming up in Australia and New Zealand this summer in mind, the Board admonished the technical crew to work even harder to give confidence to the players that they can indeed stand their own against the world’s best. “Board stated that it will do even more to prepare the team for the big challenge with another grade A friendly match in Europe and a two-week camping in Australia before the kick-off of the tournament on 20 July,” the statement stated.

Also, the board promised to constitute the boards of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), the Nigeria National League (NNL), the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and the Nigeria Nationwide League One (NLO) in one month in line with the governing structure best practice as enshrined in the statutes.

They however, charged the Golden Eaglets U-17 national team to win the forthcoming CAF U-17 in Algeria with a promise to support the team in their build-up to the tournament taking place on April 29 to May 19.

Just like they charged the U-17, the board also tasked the U-20 Flying Eagles to ensure they win the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the country after the world football governing body picked Argentina as the new host of the championships taking place on May 20 to June 11.

They expressed dissatisfaction over the recent performance of the Super Eagles and U-23 teams while calling for players’ commitment and dedication to national duty.
