NWFL: FC Robo complete Super Six battle

NWFL

The curtain has been drawn on Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership’s season and action now shifts to the playoffs following the emergence of the six teams that will compete in the lucrative end-of-the-season tournament.

The league also witnessed the relegation of Osun Babes and Ibom Angels to the lower division.

Five teams – Delta Queens, Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens and Confluence Queens had booked their spots in the playoffs. FC Robo Queens and Nasarawa Amazons were the two teams battling for the third and final spot.

FC Robo’s 4-0 bashing of Confluence Queens sealed their place in the playoff while the 5-0 whitewash of Adamawa Queens by Nasarawa Amazons could not secure them a place in the playoff.

Only four of the six teams that took part in the 2021-22 NWFL Premiership Super Six will be part of the 2022/2023 edition following the conclusion of season. They are defending champion Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, Edo Queens and Delta Queens to complete the quartet.

There was no place for Nasarawa Amazons and Naija Ratels this season.

Delta Queens will be the team to beat when the Super Six kicks off following their unbeaten run in the season. Drawn alongside defending champions, Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels, they were tipped to finish third in Group A following their unimpressive display in the Super Six. But they stunned Bayelsa Queens in Yenagoa while they played a draw against Rivers Angels in Port Harcourt to top the group.

Even without their talisman Monday Gift who recently moved abroad, Lagos-based FC Robo confirmed their place in the playoff with their impressive performance this season.
