Protest over killing of six in Plateau community

Tension has gripped Farin Lamba community in Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, following the reported killing of six youths by suspected on Tuesday night at a mining site.

The Nation reports that six youths were brutally killed at a mining site in Farin Lamba by yet-to-be-identified gunmen. Natives are blaming suspected herdsmen for the attack.

Protesting women blocked the Farin Lamba- Abuja road as early as 8:00 am, stopping motorists from entering and exiting Jos despite the presence of security operatives.

The protesting women said: “We don’t need security men here. Anytime such killings happened and they are called upon, they would not respond swiftly until the gunmen have finished carrying out their operations before seeing them; we are tired of this type of deceit.”

The community members also attacked security operatives deployed to the area.

As of the time of filing this report, many travellers are stranded along Mararaban Jama’a with many commuters making a U-turn.

It was also gathered two people were also macheted at Wareng in Riyom LGA on Wednesday by suspected herdsmen while harvesting pepper on their farms. 

Plateau Police spokesman DSP Alfred Alabo confirmed the blockage has been taken care of. 

He said normalcy has been restored to the hotbed.
