Council begins canal clearing

Acboyi–Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State, under chairmanship of Dele Oshinowo, has begun desilting to remove debris from clogged canals. 

Routes to be cleared pass through Estate, Ketu, Mascara, Elebiju, Church Street, Adekunle and Ajegunle.

The chairman said his administration’s effort was geared towards ensuring water did not reach threatening level for residents living in flood-prone areas during the rainy season.

Oshinowo noted securing of a swamp buggy regularly for the yearly activity was to ensure thorough execution of the job.

He said the LCDA would recruit workers that would make use of canoes, to ensure disposable plastics clogging waterways were removed periodically.

“As a responsible government determined to make life better, we will ensure the yearly predictions of Nigeria Metrological Agency (NIMET) and fears of destruction of life and property that follow annual rains never come to reality in our locality”.
