The Niger State Police Command yesterday began a massive deployment of its personnel to provide tight security at today’s inauguration of a new administration.
The Trade Fair Centre in Minna, the state capital, venue of the event, is wearing a new look for the ceremony.
The police command deployed its operatives alongside other security agencies to checkmate any likely breach of peace during and after the ceremony.
Police Commissioner Ogundele Ayodeji said the state command was mobilising its operatives to protect lives and property in and around the venue and man all the entry and exit points of the trade fair complex.
The police chief said the operatives comprised men and officers drawn from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), Anti-Bomb Squad (ATB), SIB-Intelligence Team, Special Tactical Squad (STS), NPF Medical Team, among others.
He added that the police water canon vehicle and other operational assets of the command would be strategically positioned at the venue to tackle any form of misconduct.
According to him, the police and other security operatives will also be positioned along the routes and major roundabouts leading to the inauguration ground.
Ayodeji warned that anyone who does not have any business around the vicinity or may want to foment trouble during the ceremony should steer clear.
The police chief said security agencies would subdue any act of confrontation or insecurity from any quarters.
He added that measures were in place to ensure orderliness and peace throughout the state.
