Four local government areas in Akwa Ibom State have urged Savannah Energy to accept their representative on its board of trustees.

The firm is into large-scale production and distribution of integrated gas.

It was said to have jettisoned the person nominated by the host communities into the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Ukanafun axis of Savannah Energy Gas Pipeline Right of Way (SE-GPLRoW).

In separate letters, some stakeholders in the Ukanafun axis of the SE-GPLRoW comprising Abak, Ukanafun, Oruk Anam and Etim Ekpo, urged the firm to comply with Section 242(2) of the Petroleum Industry Act that requires consultation with host communities in determining membership of BoT.

Paramount Ruler of Ukanafun LGA, Amos Akpan, had written the firm about an “authorised replacement of the BoT representative, Akaninyene Patrick.”

The monarch wrote again, urging the company to “clearly state reasons for the rejection of Akaninyene Patrick if indeed she has been rejected”.

He added: “If for any reason Akaninyene Patrick is rejected, the host communities in Ukanafun have nominated Ekong Udom to replace her.

“Savannah Energy should reject anyone who is not nominated by the stakeholders of the community as stated in the Petroleum Industry Act.”
