Ladoja: I want to be Olubadan

Former Oyo State Governor Rashidi Ladoja has said his ambition is to become the Olubadan of Ibadan, and not an elevated oba.

Governor Seyi Makinde recently signed the Chieftaincy Amendment Bill into law. The law granted him autonomy to present beaded crowns and coronets to chiefs.

He was also said to have consented to the promotion of the high chiefs and they will be officially installed as traditional rulers on July 7.

But Ladoja, while speaking at his Bodija residence after observing Eid prayers at the University of Ibadan (UI) Muslim praying ground, said there is no need to fix what is not broken.

Ladoja, who is the Otun Olubadan, insisted that he is only interested in becoming the Olubadan and not an ‘elevated Oba’.

“Nothing has changed. You don’t mend what is not broken. It is not fair to elevate high chiefs to Obas. My focus is to become Olubadan, not a lesser Oba,” he added.
