The Ogbe Royal Family and the Onibuku-in-Council in Ota, Ogun State, yesterday deplored misleading reports (not by The Nation) on the passing of the Oba Abraham Olusegun Bankole (J.P), Asodunjoye I.
The family said the king joined his ancestors in the early hours of Tuesday, aged 64.
Some of the reports claimed that the king was crushed by a truck, but the family faulted the sensationalisation of the monarch’s passing.

A statement by Aremo Lekan Bankole, Dr. Oluwakemi Akin-Adeyanju, Mrs. Oluwatosin Bankole-Popoola and Oluwatobiloba Bankole, a lawyer, for the Bankole Family, said traditional and Christian rites have been held in his honour while the celebration of his life will be made public soon.
“However, in the interim, the Family craves the indulgence of the public to disregard unworthy media reports that are derogatory to the amiable personality of Kabiyesi in circulation and respect the privacy of the Royal Household in these trying times,” the family said.
The statement adds that the monarch is survived by his aged mother, wives, brothers, sisters, children, and grandchildren.
“Our appreciation to all those who have been calling and visiting the Palace on condolence,” the family added.
