Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to attain net zero carbon emission by 2060.
Permanent Secretary in Federal Ministry of Power, Temitope Fashedemi, spoke at the Eighth Nigeria Energy Forum (NEF) Opening Plenary on Energy Transition for Growth in Lagos.
Fashedemi said: “The realisation of this goal depends on implementation of Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan (ETP), launched last year.”
He added: “President Bola Tinubu has signed the Electricity Act, 2023. This will accelerate exploitation of resources in meeting power demands for industrialisation and growth.”
United States Consulate General in Lagos, Will Stevens, said Nigeria was a key participant in U.S Department of Energy’s global initiative.
Group Managing Director of Sahara, Kola Adesina, said Nigeria needs to embrace new and stable energy sources to meet growth in demand.

John Alamu, group managing director of Johnvents, said the firm has installed a 3,000-kilowatt gas generator fleet to power industrial facilities.
NEF Chairman, Oluwole Adeuyi, said energy transition referred to a shift from conventional to alternative and more sustainable form of energy production and consumption.
He said winners of the Tertiary Institutions Students Energy Pitch Contest were awarded a share of N2.5million to develop innovative energy solutions at the live finals held during the forum, supported by All On.
“First prize winner was One Grid Energies from University of Nigeria Nsukka and Federal University of Technology Owerri;
“Second prize was Let it Cold, Bayero University Kano and third prize was Smokeless Briquettes, Federal University of Technology Akure,” he said.
Ms Inga Stefanowicz, Team Leader, Green and Digital Economy, European Union Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, said: “In Nigeria, together with our member states and EU development banks, as Team Europe, we are preparing a package of initiatives and infrastructure investments to further boost on-and-off-grid energy solutions.
Christoph Both, Senior Advisor at GET.invest, said: “A dedicated support facility and advisory desk is to be set up in Nigeria to act as a one-stop-shop for mobilising clean energy investments.”
The Co-Chairman of the forum, Mr. Adekunle Makinde, said the Africa Energy Innovation Contest organised by NEF 2023 is open for young professionals below age 35, to propose innovation clean energy solutions across four tracks, namely.
Clean Energy for Agro-Industry, supported by GET.invest and Johnvents; Energising Healthcare, supported by Sahara; Smart Metering, supported by MOJEC and Cleaner Electrification of Oil and Gas/Transport, supported by Oando Clean Energy Ltd and NDPHC.
