Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Collins Nwabunwane, said yesterday that Governor Chukwuma Soludo-led administration met a disarrayed local government administration on assumption of power.
He said most local government facilities were dilapidated, deserted, with few workers with no basic working tools, as well as absence of electricity and water supply, with bushy environment.
Speaking during a media chat in Awka, Nwabunwane, however, said the current administration had renovated dilapidated local government offices, while weeds that overtook most of the local government secretariats had been cleared.

He announced ongoing overhauling of the local government infrastructure and training of 5,000 workers, to improve council administration and management.
The commissioner said government was drafting a bill to establish a local government road maintenance agency, to ensure roads in the communities were regularly maintained
He said: “The transition chairmen are mandated to provide necessary working tools, make the local government offices clean, safe and conducive for workers to function optimally.
“The ministry is supervising the chairmen to ensure they carry out meaningful projects in the communities.”
Nwabunwanne said his ministry had set up a template to give communities the opportunity to elect their leaders, to address leadership crisis and sustain peace.
“Governor Soludo’s administration recognises that we need the local governments, communities and monarchs to survive in government.
“This template is aimed at prioritising public interest and we have been able to resolve conflicts and disputes in over 100 communities.
“I tell you that these communities are thriving now with meaningful development,” he said.
