LAUTECH in alleged baby swap scandal

An unemployed graduate of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomosho Oyo State, Tobi Adedeji has questioned the SS genotype of his five-year-old daughter.

He alleged foul play against LAUTECH, where the child was born.

A video posted on Monday by a Twitter user @Letter_to_Jack, showed Adedeji narrating his ordeal.

Adedeji wondered how his daughter could be living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD), despite his and his wife’s genotypes being SC and AA, respectively.

He explained that at birth his daughter developed jaundice and was unable to make sounds, so she spent a month at the hospital before being discharged.

He added that it took two and half years before he discovered that his daughter was living with SCD.

Adedeji said: “My name is Adedeji Moses Tobi. I graduated from LAUTECH. Please, I have an issue with my daughter. My daughter was born on 15th November 2018 at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, but after she was born, she had jaundice and then she was unable to talk which made us spend a month in the hospital before being discharged.

“In 2021, I did her genotype result; I noticed that she is SS. My daughter’s genotype result is not supposed to be SS because I am SC and my wife is AA.”

Worried about the situation, Adedeji said he repeated the same test at another laboratory but kept receiving the same result.

He then left Ogbomosho for the Sickle Cell Foundation (SCF) in Lagos for yet another test.

“I carried out the same test at another laboratory and it was the same result. So, I went to the Sickle Cell Foundation in Lagos and tested our genotypes again. It showed that I’m SC, my wife is AA and my daughter is SS.

“So the question is, where is the SS coming from? I agree the S is from me but the second S, where is it coming from?”

Adedeji said he went on a testing spree when he returned to Ogbomosho but kept receiving the same test result of SS as his daughter’s genotype.

“So I came back to Ogbomosho again and have done the test in different laboratories but I keep receiving the same result,” he said.

When he complained to the teaching hospital he was asked to bring his wife and daughter for testing.

After the results came back as SS for his daughter and AA for his wife, “They were dumbfounded; they were unable to say anything. They just said they would get back to me and till today they have not gotten back to me,” he lamented.

The Oyo State Governance Feedback Twitter handle @FeedbackOYSG said it empathised with the people involved but it could not attend to personal issues on the platform.”

Reacting to Mr Adedeji’s claim, the hospital’s Public Relation Office(PRO) Mr. Omotayo Ogunleye said: “This is a clinical case and as we speak, it is before the Hospital Management. I dont have the directive to speak on the matter.”
