7,000 sacks of food items distributed to Lagosians

The Chairman of Badagry-West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Mr. Joseph Gbenu, yesterday distributed 7,000 sacks of food items to residents, to cushion the effect of petrol subsidy removal.

Speaking after the distribution at Apa and Kankon, Gbenu said he took the food items to residents in their domains because some of them are old and fragile.

He said he had visited over 359 communities in Asipha and Seme areas where over 3,000 food items and a token amount were given to the residents.

“We are going round communities in Badagry-West LCDA, to give the old and vulnerable some food items and cash in order to cushion the effect of subsidy removal on petrol.

“I am a grassroots person and I believe that the best I can do is to visit my people at their domains and give them the token and food items, instead of gathering them at the council secretariat,” Gbenu said. He said he would visit Asheri and other communities today to give them their own share of the palliatives.

The Supervisor Councillor, Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Badagry-West LCDA, Mrs. Sesi Ogungbe-Yusuf, said the palliative distribution would be done monthly.
