A 2023 presidential campaign support group, Bola Campaign Organization (BCO), has lauded the approval of N5bn palliative by the federal government to states to ease the hardship faced by Nigerians over the removal of fuel subsidy.
BCO gave this commendation in a statement signed by its national patron, Abdulwahab Quardi (FCIB) and national coordinator, QS Mohammed Makinta (FNIQS) and national women leader, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo.
Describing the designed palliative framework as a good initiative BCO called on the presidency, state governors, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), Civil Society Organisations and other relevant stakeholders to ensure judicious distribution of the intervention.
The group also commended President Bola Tinubu over his insight to place a round peg in a round hole and a square peg in a square hole with his ministerial appointments and portfolios.
It stressed the need for proper supervision and monitoring to ensure that the ministers performed to benefit Nigerians and enhance good governance.
The group maintained: “With the N5 billion palliative released to each 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to cushion the effect of the removal of subsidy, this development has shown the interest of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government on the masses.
“As a group, we commend this initiative as it would go a long way to alleviate suffering faced by Nigerians following a hike in the cost of food items, and petroleum owing to the removal of subsidy on the commodity. We are however calling on the presidency, state governors, Labour Congress (NLC and TUC), civil society groups and other relevant stakeholders to ensure even distribution of the palliative to Nigerians.

“The support group, who also appealed to Nigerians to see the fuel subsidy removal as another bold and decisive step taken by Mr President to curb corruption, said, “Although the effect of the removal is excruciatingly painful, urge Nigerians to endure the decision in the best interest of the nation”.
“We equally commend the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his deep insight into the appointment of Ministers and their portfolios which is an indication of a round peg in a round hole”.
“While we want to call effective monitoring and supervision of the newly appointed Ministers to promote and ensure good performances want to seize this opportunity to appeal with Nigerians berating and criticizing the portfolios and ministerial appointments to have a positive mind in the “Renewed Hope Agenda” of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration”.
“We are optimistic that this development is strategic and would ensure effective service delivery and enhance good governance in no long time.”
