Ebonyi State’s Smart Mkpuma dominated the final day of the weightlifting event of the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba with two gold medals and a silver medal in the 55kg male which concluded the event in style.
Mkpuma won a gold medal in the Clean & Jerk with a lift of 105 kg, a silver medal in the Snatch with a lift of 75kg and another gold medal in the total lift of 180kg.
Though he and Osun State’s Adelabu Hammed who won a gold medal in the Snatch with a lift of 85kg, a silver medal in the clean & jerk with a lift of 95kg and another silver in the total with a combined lift of 180kg, finished with the same lift, Mkpuma was announced the winner because he lifted the clean and jerk first.

Edo State’s Goodnews Jacob grabbed all the two bronze medals in the 55kg with a lift of 72kg in the Snatch, 90kg in the clean and jerk for a combined total lift of 162kg.
Gideon James of Kaduna got the other bronze medal in the clean and jerk with a lift of 90kg.
The Weightlifting event ended with pomp and ceremony with coaches spotting new talents to serve as replacement for aging Weightlifters in the near future.
