- PDP exco visits gov, backs disposition for peace
Rivers State Governor, Siminialayi Fubara, says he was not coerced to sign or implement the Presidential Peace Resolution as being suggested in some quarters.
Fubara told the state Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a solidarity visit to him in Port Harcourt that his acceptance to implement the resolution was borne out of his desire and commitment for peace to reign in the state.
He said as a leader, his role is to ensure that there is peace in his domain at all times adding that no true leader would be a party to crisis under his watch.
He then called on every Rivers son and daughter to join him in ensuring that peace continues to reign in the state.
He expressed gratitude to the generality of the people of the state, particularly youths ,for standing by him during the political turbulence ,saying that he would continue to pursue the course of peace in the state as no price was too much to pay for peace.
The party leadership reaffirmed its total support for Fubara in his quest to ensure peace in the state.
The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Tambari Sydney Gbara said the committee warned those fanning the embers of war through derogatory, unguarded and provocative statements to stop forthwith and allow peace to reign.
Speaking during the visit, the Acting Chairman of the party, Chukwuemeka Aaron commended the governor for pursuing peace as demonstrated through his ongoing implementation of the Abuja Peace Accord.
Aaron called on the people of the state to join in the governor’s peaceful disposition to bring about the needed development in the state.
He said development could only thrive in a peaceful environment and cautioned those patronising divisions in Rivers.

He thanked the governor for the N100,000 Christmas bonus to civil servants and other yuletide gifts to the party.
He encouraged Fubara to continue in his developmental strides saying that so far the governor had demonstrated capacity to govern the state with the execution of viable people-oriented projects.
He named some of the projects as the Port Harcourt Ring Road, Abonema ring road, Elelenwo Internal roads, Bori Internal roads, some roads in Etche, Ogba Egbema and Ahoada as well as the low income housing units, among others.
Aaron maintained that Fubara was executing live-impacting projects in the state in barely six months in office.
He further commended the governor for not letting the crises in the state deter him from embarking on programmes and projects designed to add value to the lives of residents in the state.
He assured the governor that the party would continue to pray for the success of his administration pledging to ensure unity in PDP.
