A 43-year-old suspected female drug peddler, Esther Newman Obiekezie alias Candy has been arrested by the police in Lagos.

Obiekezie was apprehended around 1am on February 6, by operatives attached to Morogbo, Ojo.

The suspect, it was alleged, operated at Mojirade Street, off Ilogbo.

Two live ammunition, substances suspected to be Crystal Methamphetamine

and cash sum of N371,970 were recovered during a search of her premises.

It was alleged that the suspect and her accomplices attempted to bribe the police with N4 million cash, a refrigerator and a television set to be released but the officer-in-charge, SP Rilwan Kasumu, rejected the bribe offer.

Her alleged accomplices identified as Esther Akete, 43, and Okey Okebalam, 49, were said to have brought a new refrigerator, a 32 inch television and the sum of N4 million to the police to discontinue their investigation of Obiekezie and to allow her continue the sale of illicit substances without disturbances.

Confirming the suspect’s arrest in a statement yesterday, Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said the Inspector General (IG) Kayode Egbetokun, applauded the officer and his team for refusing the inducements.

Adejobi said the suspect sold a drug called ICE, adding that large quantities of it and AK-47 live ammunition were recovered at her place.

“The police officer who frowned at the offer siezed the cash and marked it as exhibit and arrested the duo for further investigation and prosecution.

“The IGP, therefore, reiterates the commitment of the Force to harnessing all available means and adopting professional anti crime strategies to tackle all forms of crimes and criminality in Nigeria,” he said.
