Anambra lawyer surrendered to police over alleged child abuse

The Onitsha, Anambra State based lawyer, who allegedly, brutalised her 11-year-old house help has submitted herself to the police for interrogation.

The suspect, Adachukwu Chikelu-Okafor, who allegedly inserted a hot knife into the private part of the victim was declared wanted last week after she allegedly fled her base when her alleged crime was exposed.

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs took the lead in declaring her wanted with a bounty placed on her head which was followed by the state’s Women Affairs Ministry.

But the lawyer turned herself in and had been detained by the Police Command in the state.

The woman was alleged to have boasted while manhandling the child that she was a lawyer and nothing would happen to her

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, confirmed the lawyer’s detention.

She said the Onitsha-based lawyer surrendered herself to the police a few days after a bounty of N2 milion was placed on her.

Obinabo said the suspect would be arraigned before the Children, Sexual and Gender Based Violence Magistrate Court in Awka this week.

The Commissioner, who said she visited the victim of the brutality in the hospital recently, confirmed that she had been successfully treated and discharged.
