Lagos State Safety Commission has shut two shops on Martins Street, off Broad Street, Lagos Island, due to safety violations.
Director-General, Lanre Mojola, said the shops were shut following a petition alleging they violated safety rules as they were close to a transformer at 148, Broad Street, Marina.
He said the commission had a mandate to ensure safety of life and property.

“The barricade on the transformer is touching the wall of the building, coupled with a gas generator close to the transformer, which may lead to fire outbreak,” Mojola added.
He urged the public to support government’s zero-tolerance policy against violation of safety rules and regulations.
Said he: “Safety is collective responsibility. I urge the public to report unsafe practices or infractions to 0700SAFETY.”
