Agency plants 400 trees, distributes cook stoves in Kano

National Agency for Great Green Wall (NAGGW) yesterday planted 400 trees in Kano to mark its World Day.

Another hectare of orchard plantation was also established in Bauchi, the agency said.

In Kano, the planting took place in Janguza Barracks under Major Haruna Idris.

The fruit bearing trees (mango and orange) were planted in partnership with a Netherland partner, Mr. Wout Hoff.

Cookstoves were given to women.

Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Yusuf Maina-Bukar, said NAGGW was promoting clean cooking with stoves and cylinders during 2024 Great Green Wall Day in line with Renewed Hope Agenda on Compressed Natural Gas, Liquified Petroleum Gas and clean cooking methods to address degradation and climate change.

Maina-Bukar, with Head of Information and Corporate Communications, Mrs Pauline Sule, noted directors and field officers have reached out to communities to ensure effective distribution of stoves.
