The Speaker Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly on Friday, July 12, held a valedictory session in honour of the late former member, Azubuike Nmerukini.
Nmerukini was a member of the House in the 4th Assembly, representing Port Harcourt Constituency III, and was the chairman of the House committee on transport.
He was said to have worked collaboratively with the executive arm in the development of the transport subsector in the state.
A statement signed by Amaewhule’s special assistant on media, Martins Wachukwu said at the valedictory session, serving and former members gave glowing tributes to the late former legislator.

They said he contributed to the growth and stability of the then-fledgling democracy and the 4th Rivers Assembly.
They alluded to his understanding of the political system in the state and contributions on traditional matters as one, who was also a traditional title holder.
In his eulogy, Amaewhule described Nmerukini as one, who brought his knowledge of politics to bear on his duties.
He said Nmerukini was a philanthropist, who used his wealth to better the lives of his people and provided mentorship to many people.
Amaewhule said that the House was in pain that Nmerukini died at a time when his fatherly advice would have played a significant role in the state.
He said after his dedicated service in the 4th Assembly, Nmerukini went further to serve the state in other capacities, including Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Council, and Chairman, of Rivers State Local Government Service Commission.
The Speaker said Nmerukini would be greatly missed, and urged the family to find solace in God.
