APC urges Fed Govt to put Obaseki on security watch

Edo State Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, has accused leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of resorting to campaigns of calumny and mudslinging, peddling falsehoods and mistruths.

He said this yesterday at a news conference in Benin.

He said: “The APC is reeling from the fact that it has a governorship candidate (Senator Monday Okpebholo, the representative of Edo Central Senatorial District), who has continued to inflict the party and its handlers with the pain of making up stories to confuse Edo people and distract them from the main issue, which is selling their vision and plans to the people of the state.

“One wonders why a party that has issued over 150 statements in the last three months will have none addressing the vision of the party and its candidate, and how the candidate plans to implement the vision to better the lots of Edo people.

“The governing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government in Edo State, led by Governor Godwin Obaseki, commits N1 billion monthly to provide food palliative for millions of residents.

“Our PDP government led the charge in the country to raise the minimum wage to N70,000, and the party’s candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, has promised to look at ways to further increase the amount. We want to hear from the APC and its candidate what their plan is in this regard.”

Edo State Chairman of APC, Jarret Tenebe, has called on the Federal Government to put on security watch, Governor Obaseki, in view of his alleged threat to burn down Nigeria.

He also alerted the security agencies of an alleged engagement between Obaseki and a section of the civil society group, drawn from Edo State, and cultists from neighbouring states, with the sole aim of recruiting them for any protest that might be in the offing.

Tenebe yesterday alleged: “The aim of Obaseki’s plan is to create anarchy in Edo State and the five other Southsouth states and blame the APC for the destructions that will follow the protest.

“It is embarrassing and worrisome that the House of Assembly has turned blind eyes to the danger Obaseki has become, as the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, and members of Edo House of Assembly have refused to condemn the serious security breach the governor has committed. “
