FCT to recover Abuja film village, to revive transport company

The group managing director of Abuja Investment Company Limited, Moreen Tamuno, has stated that with the support of the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, the company is committed to reclaiming 3000 hectares of land belonging to the Abuja Film Village.

During a visit by the House of Representatives Committee on the FCT, Tamuno mentioned that the minister has approved the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to delineate the boundaries of the land, which has been encroached upon by miners.

She noted that for 24 years, there was little attention given to the Film Village, and when she first sought to visit, she faced warnings about the risk of kidnappings in the area.

She said: “We have about 3,000 hectares of land there, which is being encumbered already and, we have mining taking place there. We are working with FCT fortunately already”.

She explained that the inter-ministerial Committee is expected to come up with the report to secure the parameters around the land and see what the company could achieve there.

She that AICL has met with some Stakeholders in the entertainment industry including the Actors Guild who are already partnering with the company, to stimulate the economy and create employment.

She disclosed that the company has set up some subsidiary companies such as Power Launch which is a Leasing Company, Abuja Urban Mass Transit Company, Abuja Property Development and Abuja Market Development Company, Aso Savings and Loan, and Abuja Tech Village.

In addition to this, she said AICL own 6 percent equity in Abuja Continental Hotel formerly known as Sheraton Hotel, adding however that the equity stake was not enough to get it a place on the board of the company.

She noted that efforts are also being made to ensure that the company’s staff are well motivated by embarking on a lot of capacity building and to drive them to ensure that we return dividends to owners which is FCT.

Chairman of the House Committee on FCT, Hon. Aliyu Mukhtar Betara applauded Dr. Tamuno first for her ingenuity towards improved revenue generation since her assumption of office.

Betara also applauded the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike over ongoing infrastructural development projects across the nation’s capital city.

The lawmaker, however, charged the management to redouble their efforts as the Minister does not tolerate failure
