Five women leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The five leaders led hundreds of APC members to join the PDP in Ikare Akoko, Akoko Northeast Local Government.

Among the defectors was the wife of Olukare of Ikare Akoko, Olori Muina Momoh and 18 high chiefs led by Chief Adubiaro.

They said they dumped APC because it has continued to entrench poverty and inflict pains on the people.

Adubiaro, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, said it was their desire to reverse the trend of lack and want across the country.

She said their belief that there was need for a rebirth for a better tomorrow informed their decision to part ways with the APC.

The defectors said they were determined to join hands with the PDP and its governorship candidate, Agboola Ajayi, to rebuild Ondo State.

They said they resisted pressure from Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa not to defect because they believed APC had failed to deliver good governance.
