In celebration of the International Day of the Girl, the Bennie Griffins Foundation has organised a special program titled “Sport for Rehabilitation” at the Girls Correctional Center in Idi Araba, Lagos State.
The event, aimed at using the power of sports as a tool for empowering and rehabilitating young girls in the correctional system.
The initiative brought together female wards to engage in a series of sporting activities designed to foster teamwork, self-discipline, and emotional well-being.
With a focus on holistic development, the program provided the girls with an opportunity to build confidence, develop life skills, and channel their energy into productive and positive outlets.
The Founder, Benedicta Oviesu, speaking through her representatives, emphasized the importance of sport in transforming lives, especially for vulnerable populations.
“We believe that sports can serve as a powerful tool for rehabilitation and reintegration into society. Our aim is to empower these young girls, giving them hope and the tools they need to rebuild their futures,” Bennie said.
The event also included motivational talks, and emotional support activities that sought to inspire the girls to pursue their dreams, even in challenging circumstances.
Participants were encouraged to take pride in their abilities and to use the lessons from sports—such as persistence, resilience, and leadership—in their daily lives.
According to the Principal, Mrs Ojukotola:
“The sport Rehabilitation was a wonderful experience for the girls at the special correctional center. We appreciate you and your continuous support.”
