Rotary International District 9112 has commenced work to expand the frontiers of sporting activities for all members of the club in Nigeria.

Chairman, Sports Activities Committee 2024/2025 of the District, Alozie Nsirimobi, made the disclosure recently in Lagos at a media parley announcing the take-off of Rotary Sports Festival (Rosfest) second edition series.

At the launching, while a new logo for Rosfest’25 was unveiled, the competition’s touch was also lighted.

Speaking, Nsirimobi, who reeled out the reasons for the sporting competition, said the District was working to spread the sporting activities to other districts in the state, country and possibly to go international.

“It is no more news that the Rotary Sport Festival was first started in District 9110, now 9111 and 9112,” he said. “What will be new is the expected spread to other districts and zones. We look forward to it.

“It is very pertinent to mention that other Districts are gearing up on starting theirs. But, as usual, our District takes the lead.”

He said that activities for the forthcoming 2025 Rotary sport festival will begin officially with the ROSFEST Golf tournament at the Ikoyi Club on February 28, 2025.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for March 1, at the District office with the grand finale taking place at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on March 7, 2025.

The event, which has attracted numerous sponsors including the Lagos State Sports Commission, Brila Media, Ressa Projects, United Nigeria Airline, Adron Homes, Rites Foods, among others, has several sporting activities both on group/individual and club levels.

Earlier, the District Governor, Femi Adenekan, who explained the rationale behind the competition, said that Rotarians deserved to ease out and participate in some of the sporting activities for healthy living that will increase blood circulation and mental health.

According to him, these activities will also foster more cordial relationship, team work and social cohesion amongst Rotarians; to attract and extend rotary membership to non-Rotarian sports enthusiasts; and create awareness and promote the rotary brand among others.

Adenekan added that the activities will also create entertainment, fun and relaxation for hardworking Rotarians.

Edgar Ayalogu, business development, Showtime Flag, said the organisation is partnering with Rotary Club to introduce flag football into the sports festival. According to him, the partnership with Rotary Club will help push the Nigerian flag football message to international limelight.

“But the most important thing for us now is the fact that having someone like the Rotary Club partner with us to introduce the sport into their sports festival. It just shows that what we’re doing with flag football can actually make a difference or make an impact for Rotary Club,” he said.
