The Southwest Agenda for Asiwaju (SWAGA) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as pivotal steps toward placing Nigeria on the path to prosperity and development.
Senator Dayo Adeyeye, the national chairman of SWAGA, made this statement in Ilorin during the receipt of 6,000 bags of 10-kilogram garri palliatives for Kwara SWAGA members.
The donation was made by retired Justice Lambo Akanbi.
SWAGA, a prominent support group for Tinubu’s presidential campaign, praised the president’s decision to remove the petrol subsidy, calling it a bold and courageous move.
Senator Adeyeye noted that while previous administrations had considered the subsidy removal, they lacked the resolve to implement it.
The former minister expressed optimism about the reforms, stating, “By next year, Nigerians will begin to feel the positive effects of Tinubu’s economic policies. He has successfully restructured the nation’s economy.”
“Many trucks carrying goods would have been converted to compressed natural gas (CNG). By then a lot of people will be using gas to power their vehicles.
“Dangote will need to be exporting 80 percent of his petrol out of Nigeria. Better days are ahead of this country.”
Senator Adeyeye hailed Tinubu for bringing Nigeria out of the precipice and brinks of collapse.
“When he took over as the president on May 29th, 2023, Nigeria was finished. 70 percent of the country’s budget was used to service debt before he assumed office. Nigeria was borrowing money to pay the salaries of civil servants.
“The issue of fuel subsidy removal started from former president Olusegun Obasanjo. No government before Tinubu dared to remove the fuel subsidy. Some of them were afraid to remove it because they did not have good intentions. Tinubu has good intentions and he removed it to save Nigeria.
“Today Nigeria is only using over 60 percent of its resources to service debts. The country can pay civil servants without borrowing.
“Today the country is not using ways and means, it is using whatever it generates to meet its needs. Nigeria is now on the right path of development,” he said.
The senator praised Justice Akanbi (rtd) for his humanitarian gesture, saying, “We are highly impressed for you to have carried out this humanitarian gesture through SWAGA.”

Earlier, the retired jurist hinted that he has a firm that engages in various agricultural produce.
He said: “We are glad to associate with President Tinubu in addressing the poverty of the poor. The importance of this initiative cannot be overstated. Many families are struggling to meet their daily needs.
“Together, we can create a better future for everyone. As we launch this palliative programme, let us remember that this is just the beginning. We must continue to work hand in hand leveraging our resources to reach more families in need.
“Let us encourage others to join this noble course that our effort will reach every corner of our society. I sincerely call on all friends of this administration to emulate our modest gesture by playing the role of change agents.”
