The Supreme Forum of Yoruba Youths has commended the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ayodele Sonubi, for his efforts in safeguarding farmers and their agricultural produce across the state.

In a statement issued by the Forum’s President, Otunba Oluwafemi Awogboro, after a courtesy visit to the Police Commissioner at the Command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, the group highlighted significant improvements in the protection of lives and property under Sonubi’s leadership.

Awogboro emphasised that agriculture is vital to Oyo State’s economy and stressed the importance of ensuring farmers’ safety to sustain food production and livelihoods.

He further praised the commissioner’s initiatives, noting they have created a more secure environment for farmers to operate without fear of theft or violence.

He said: “The collaborative efforts between the police and local farmers have fostered a sense of trust and cooperation. This partnership has not only enhanced security but has also encouraged farmers to report any suspicious activities, which has contributed to a more proactive approach to crime prevention in rural areas.

“The forum acknowledged the overall decline in crime rates in the state, attributing this success to the effective strategies implemented by the federal government and police under Sonubi’s command.

“The community has felt a renewed sense of safety, which is crucial for both residents and businesses alike. The forum believes that a secure environment is fundamental for attracting investments and promoting economic growth.”

He, however, urged government and relevant stakeholders to provide necessary resources and training for police personnel, adding that investment in the police force will ensure that they remain equipped to handle emerging security challenges effectively.
