Director of Federal Science Equipment Centre, Ijanikin, Lagos State, Mr Ismaila Yekini, has said dependence on foreign science equipment can be reduced by reducing importation of science equipment.
He said introduction of Pubic Private Partnership would improve service delivery by science laboratory technicians.
Speaking at a five-day workshop, organised by Federal Ministry of Education for science laboratory technicians at Nigerian Institute of Science Laboratory Technology in Ibadan, Oyo State, Yekini said such workshop would train laboratory technicians to encourage local production and repair of science equipment.

He said the capacity building was aimed at improving competence of laboratory technicians.
Institute’s Director General, Yemisi Gbadegesin, described science and technology as key to national development.
He said the functionality of science and technology in institutions, industries and research environments depended on availability and proper maintenance of laboratory equipment.
