Council polls: We are not underrating other political parties, says APC

The Ondo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) stated that it has embarked on rigorous campaigns ahead of the forthcoming local government polls because it is not underrating other political parties.

It mentioned that it has set up a committee headed by Charles Fagbunka to oversee and coordinate all campaigns across the 18 local government areas of the state.

A spokesman for the Ondo APC, Alex Kalejaiye, who spoke at a press briefing ahead of Saturday’s election, stated that the party has reconciled all aggrieved members to enter the election as a united family.

Kalejaiye expressed optimism that the party would repeat the same victory it secured in last year’s governorship election when it won in all 18 local government areas.

According to him, “We have given directives to our leaders to meet and mobilise our members to visit churches and markets to canvass for votes.

“We are fully prepared for the local government elections. Our campaigns are taking place in the Wards and local government areas. We are working and getting set for this exercise.

“We do not believe in buying votes. With what we have done and what we are doing, we trust that the people will vote for us. We believe in a decent campaign. During the governorship election, we campaigned and won in all the local government areas. It is the people who will decide who will be their councilor and Chairperson. Our preoccupation is to win the election. Thirteen political parties, according to ODIEC, are participating in the election. We are going to win.

“People voted for performance. We never believed in buying votes. With what we have done for the people, we know they wouldn’t have any problem voting for the APC.

“We started by sensitizing our members. We have committees and they have been working in various Wards and Units. The committees have been active. We are not just starting campaigns.

“In every civilized society, the essence of paying tax is to make life better for the people. The APC is committed to utilising results properly for the betterment of the people. If people pay taxes and see justification in terms of infrastructure, they will be happy.

“It would be unimaginable to think that our party could lose in a contest like this. This is because the party has done so much for the people of Ondo State, and we are not relenting. In November last year, we won in all the local government areas. We are not underrating other political parties.

We have confidence because we have good candidates to promote. We have a good party and good products to offer.
