Civil servant bags life imprisonment for defiling minor

An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Thursday sentenced a 47-year-old civil servant with Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corp, Ramoni Amore, to life imprisonment for defiling a 15-year-old minor (names withheld).

Justice Rahman Oshodi sentenced Ramoni Amore to life imprisonment following his conviction of a two-count charge brought against him by the state.

Amore had earlier pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him by the state government when arraigned on July 28, 2021, on a two-count charge bordering on defilement and attempt to procure abortion contrary to criminal laws of Lagos State 2015.

Justice Oshodi held that the prosecutor had proved the case of defilement but failed to prove the case of an attempt to procure abortion.

“No medical expert was presented to establish that the substance given to the victim was poisonous or noxious or capable of procuring an abortion.
