Lagos speaker pays tribute as former head of service Ajose is laid to rest

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has paid glowing tribute to Pa Akinsanya Ajose, a former Head of Service in the state and a member of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), as he is laid to rest today.

Pa Ajose, who hailed from Badagry, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the age of 78.

Describing him as a father figure and mentor, Speaker Meranda noted that he played a pivotal role in guiding her and her generation of politicians. 

“Pa Ajose was one of the people we looked up to for direction and guidance. He was an astute administrator and community leader who led from the front at all times. We were privileged to learn from him, and we will continue to uphold the ideals he and the GAC taught us,” she said.

Ajose was appointed Head of Service in 2004 by then-Governor Bola Tinubu, leaving a lasting impact on the Lagos State Civil Service.

Following his retirement, he remained actively involved in politics and was a key member of President Tinubu’s think tank.

Born in Badagry on February 10, 1946, he had his primary and secondary school education in Nigeria before proceeding to the United States of America where he bagged a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts and Science from the University of Illinois, Chicago in 1973. He later earned a Master’s in Social Science from the Governors State University, also in the US. He joined the Lagos State Civil Service in 1979.
